It all started when…
Carver 47 opened July 2017 as the creative vision of Monica and Elizabeth as they imagined how to merge the Kellogg Foundation’s Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation (TRHT) with a love of gardening, communal dining and an introduction into the service industry and culinary arts for LBP students. Reaching back into their southern roots Monica and Elizabeth designed a culinary and aesthetic experience that layers rustic treasures + nature + art. Carver 47 offers fresh juices, smoothies, breakfast, lunch and take home options that embrace seasonal and local foods. We are also an active art gallery and a catering host for small programs and groups of similar intentions and endeavors. We also have membership programs for our most beloved neighbors, who are affectionately known as “Repeaters.” In honor of Dr. Carver, C47 also offers a specialized membership experience for educators. Staffed by community members and students, Carver 47 is an experiment in community development and mentoring through caring service. Fast Food? Not so much. Quality and Care are our Intentions. We take great pride in this opportunity to bring a moment of peace and nourishment to your day. Each menu
“Carver 47 is “the comfort zone and family nook” of Chicago’s South side. Located in the historic Bronzeville/ North Kenwood neighborhood, C47 serves the community as a casual cafe with a well crafted menu of healthy and soulful offerings. A funky greenhouse bar, art gallery, farm table and outdoor garden, C47 is designed to invite us to reflect upon the beautiful and generous life of Dr. George Washington Carver.”
